IN MEMORIAM

During the offseason we lost a great Soonerguy, Leon "Mule Train" Heath, 78, who lead Coach Wilkinson's 1950 and 1951 teams as a consensus All-America fullback. Leon died on March 23.

Leon was an important figure in Oklahoma achieving its first of  seven national championships.  He was named outstanding player of the Sugar Bowl and played three years as fullback for the Washington Redskins.

Both longtime Norman Transcript sports editor Jim Weeks and former OU SID and Sooner broadcaster Mike Treps rank Leon Heath as one of the top 10 Oklahoma Sooner running backs of all time.

Leon was Alex and Hunter's second cousin by marriage and was a significant figure in the family. He will be greatly missed.

----

We also lost our buddy  Adair Smith, 81, who was a fixture of Section 4 at Owen Field for many years.  Perhaps our best OU-Texas weekend experience was celebrating his birthday at Bugoti's restaurant in Dallas.

Adair was instrumental for kicking off Hunter's first OU-Texas gameday experience in 2004 with the OU Club pre-game breakfast in Los Colinas. He also joined us on Sugar Bowl and Orange Bowl trips.

Adair was a fellow OU J-School grad, WWII veteran and retired educator. Most importantly, his blood ran crimson. He died Feb. 23 in Oklahoma City.  We miss him dearly.     -- MDD

Saturday's scrimmage sealed the deal for Sam Bradford....   Click here for more

A little rain never hurt anyone

It was a soggy scrimmage Saturday, but Hunter was there to declare Sam Bradford the winner of the quarterback starting job.  Coach Stoops confirmed his decision on Tuesday.  (That's a little chili dog leftover in the mouth corners).

About 8,000 watch the Sooners two-a-day scrimmage (l), and Mike (r) makes a dry run this week on the bike to Owen Field -- 15 minutes from house to stadium.
