Dave: Everything is on the line at WVU — will one of the greatest offenses be wasted this season?

by

Over the past few weeks I have been thinking that maybe I’ve been too hard on the Sooner defense.

I mean, there are other teams that get a lot of points scored on them.  Purdue dropped 49 on Ohio St.  Pittsburgh beat Syracuse 76-61. And Clemson rolled up 59 points against Florida St.

So it’s not just Oklahoma and it’s not just the Big 12. Maybe, just maybe, it’s not all that bad on the Oklahoma defensive side of the ball.

But then Saturday night happened.

The Kansas Jayhawks came to Norman.  On senior night.  And scored 40 points.  And gained 524 yards against the Sooner “defense”.

Oklahoma basically had one player to worry about.  And that one player ran for 252 yards and averaged 17 yards a carry.  17 yards a carry?  Is that a joke?  Did I mention it was THE KANSAS FREAKING JAWHAWKS!

Think about this.  This Friday’s game against West Virginia in Morgantown is basically a toss-up. If Oklahoma doesn’t win, they don’t play for a Big 12 Title and of course any hope of a College Football Playoff is gone.

If that happens, it would be the biggest waste of one of the greatest offenses in college football history and it will be the fault of maybe the worst defense in Oklahoma football history.

It boggles the mind.  It’s unreal to think that the Sooners will probably have to score in the high 50s and maybe even the low 60s to win this game.  But that is the reality in this 2018 season.

As such the Worry Meter is at 100% this week.

Everything is on the line.

Last time the Sooners were in Morgantown, it was a blizzard and a win for the Sooners.

It’s all on the offense.

Might as well just attempt an onside kick after every OU score.  You probably have a better shot at re-covering that onside kick than the defense will have of stopping West Virginia.  With all the being said…BOOMER!!!
