Dave: Did you know Gundy’s Cowboys have a worse record against OU than other Poke teams?

by

Not a whole lot to say about the Tech game.  Crazy stuff happens in Lubbock and last Saturday night was no exception.

Big 12 officiating again shows itself to be some of the worst in college football.  Not even worth discussing anymore. It’s just how it’s going to be.

Kyler has about the worst start you can imagine only to rebound dramatically and win another OU/Tech shootout.

The defense is still kind of a mixed bag. Can’t really fault them too much for the first 14 points due to turnovers. And that pass interference against Motley was just awful. He intercepts that ball and returns it for a touchdown and the game is essentially over before halftime.  But they did give up a lot of yards and points to a backup QB in the second half to make it a tight game.

Oh well. At the end of the day it was another point fest in Lubbock that the Sooners won. Take the win, try to fix the mistakes and move on.

And they will move on to Bedlam this Saturday afternoon in Norman.

This is going to sound weird, but I’m worried that I’m not worried about this game.

I mean I shouldn’t be worried, should I? A team that is 7th place in the Big 12 with a 5-4 record coming to Owen Field shouldn’t be a problem.  Should it?

Their quarterback, while decent, is not near the talent they have had in the past.  And Big 12 offenses are regularly scoring in the 30’s and 40’s on their defense, so what will our offense do to them?  At least 40’s or 50’s?

So why should I be worried? Because it’s a so called rivalry game? Can it be a rivalry game when one team wins 80% of the time?

I heard an interesting fact the other day. There are few people that would dispute that the last 15 years under Gundy have been the golden era of osu football.  Winning percentage, bowl appearances and bowl wins. Heck, even a Big 12 Title.

There has never been a more successful stretch of gridiron success at osu.

However, at the same time, Gundy has a lower winning percentage against the Sooners when compared to all other years combined for the cowboy football program.

Can it be a rivalry game when one team wins 80% of the time?

Think about that.

The best ever period of success overall for osu football is also the worst ever against Oklahoma football.

Probably has to do with the success of Bob Stoops more than anything else. I think the real reason I am worrying about this game is because on the rare occasion that the pokes do win, boy do the band wagon osu fans come out in force and really put it in your face.  And then you have to live with it for an entire year.

They won’t admit it. But this is osu’s Super Bowl every year. If they can beat OU, doesn’t matter what else happens. They could go 1-11, but if that win was against OU, everyone’s job is safe and they are planning a parade in Stillwater.

And I haven’t even mentioned that this game, along with the rest of the Sooner games going forward, is a virtual playoff.  Lose one and you’re completely out of the final four discussion.

So with that in mind, the Worry Meter is at 75%.

The facts say the Sooners win this game with ease. But the fallout of an admittedly improbable upset gives me pause. With all that being said….BOOMER!!!  — Dave
