Dave: Sooners defense faces first big test at Texas Tech

by

Game two minus Mike Stoops.  So far so good.

The defense seems aggressive and more importantly, is tackling much better.  The offense pretty much did what it wanted too.

I really think they can score in the 30’s to 40’s on anyone including the likes of Alabama and LSU.  Just don’t know if the defense could keep those teams from scoring in the 40’s or 50’s on us.

But again, every passing week has shown improvement.

However this weekend will show if this defensive improvement is for real or just a mirage.

TCU and K-State it turns out are having some of their worst years in recent memory. Partly due to the fact that neither one of them have any quarterbacks that can throw the ball more than ten yards down the field.

That the Sooner defense didn’t turn those mediocre signal callers into Heisman Trophy candidates is a big win over past performances.

However, there will be a significant upgrade in offensive competition when the Sooners travel to Lubbock to face Texas Tech in a prime time game this Saturday night. Tech again is really what they always have been. Really good offense and a bad defense.

This weekend will show if this defensive improvement is for real or just a mirage

Now some people will tell you that their defense has improved. And they may have, but not by much.

They did hold Okie State to 17 points and TCU to 14 points. But that was before the pokes finally found out how to use their quarterback (see the texas vs osu game) and TCU, as stated before, is just bad.Teams with real offenses scored in the 40’s against them.

And of course OU has a tremendous offense, so I would be disappointed if we don’t drop at least 45 on them.  We should hit the 50’s.

Then it just comes down to our defense. Do we see more improvement? — which to me would be to hold Tech to the high 20’s or low 30’s and result in a comfortable 2 to 3 touchdown win. Or do we regress and see another 66-59 defensive debacle from 2016?

So the Worry Meter is hovering at 85% this weekend.

The stretch run has started. Lubbock is the first elimination game.  With all that being said…BOOMER!!!
