The good and bad from Norman and all around college football in week 1:
Florida Sate. A week after losing to Virginia Tech the Seminoles struggled with lowly Samford (no, not Stanford), needing a come from behind rally in the fourth quarter to win. After two games FSU is 9 of 30 in third down conversions, ranking 111st out of 128 teams.
Props to Herman Edwards. Who knew a washed up NFL coach could find love and success in the valley of the sun? His Arizona State team had a big win over Michigan State, perhaps raises some questions about pundits’ prediction that ASU was a cellar team in the Pac 12.
UCLA’s Caleb Wilson, who had the biggest play against the Sooners Saturday. Wilson is son of former OU linbacker Chris Wilson, who starred on the same Owen Field. Best of wishes to Caleb the rest of the way.
Michigan has lost 17 consecutive road games against ranked opponents. Jim Harbaugh holds a 1-6 record against rivals Michigan State, Notre Dame and Ohio State. Let that sink in. Here is one writer’s take.
Kansas Jayhawks. After a discouraging week 1 loss to Nichols, KU routed Central Michigan 31-7, their first road victory in 47 straight games.
