The only time the Oklahoma offense was stopped Saturday was when an official clocked wide receiver A.D. Miller going across the middle.
Otherwise, the No. 7 Sooners rolled over Florida Atlantic, 63-14, in an impressive opening game in Norman.
The Sooners had the Owls down by 42 points at the half, gaining 408 yards by then – the most yards OU has produced in a season-opening half since 2007.
QB Kyler Murray was sensational. He threw for two touchdowns and 209 pass yards, completing 9-of-11 passes and posting a QB efficiency rating of 301.4. Murray added four carries for 23 rushing yards.
Four Oklahoma RBs combined for five rushing touchdowns, led by Rodney Anderson’s pair of touchdown runs and 100 rushing yards on five attempts.
Receiver Marquise Brown and Miller ea
ch caught a touchdown pass. Brown totaled 133 receiving yards on six catches.
The Sooners’ special teams also joined in on the scoring efforts as Lee Morris blocked an FAU punt in the opening quarter to set up a scoop-and-score by Curtis Bolton. The play resulted in Oklahoma’s first blocked punt returned for a touchdown since 2002.
Defensively, the Sooners shut out the Owls for the first 44 game minutes. The defense looked noticeably more disciplined in this game than fans have seen in recent seasons.
