The good and bad from Norman and all around college football in week 1:
Redshirt junior fullback Joe Castiglione, Jr. had season ending shoulder surgery this week. We’re not sure if Joe Castiglione, Sr. still has eligibility left, but at least the Sooners would not have to buy a new jersey.
Props to fifth-year senior Carson Meier, who has won the starting fullback (H-back) spot left open by the graduating Dimitri Flowers. “You know, sometimes those seniors just raise their play to (another) level, and I just I mean I’m just getting so much joy out of watching Carson grow and become player that he’s become so far,” said RB Coach Jay Boulware who recruited Meier from Tulsa Union.
Ohio State University officials confirmed that now Texas coach Tom Herman was hanging out with disgraced assistant coach Zach Smith at a Columbus, Ohio strip club in 2015. That isn’t going to set well with some of the tea-sipping Longhorn faithful deep in the heart of the Bible Belt.
Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt calls Lincoln Riley the “best offensive mind in America right now.” He has the Sooners No. 7 in the country to start the season. Klatt is a former Colorado quarterback from 2002-2005.
Former Vikings and Ohio State running back and now ESPN analyst Robert Smith has picked Texas to make the 2018-19 national championship playoff. Oh, the effects of CTEs (chronic traumatic encephalopathy).
Drake Stoops has impressed coaches at wide receiver in pre-season practices. Lincoln Riley has called him a playmaker who has a chance to get game action.
