Coach Bob Stoops told his Sooners in the locker room in Morgantown the news:
Next week the Sooners will play for the Big 12 championship in a defacto championship game for the first time in Norman.
Oklahoma has won nine Big 12 championships. It’s just turned out those championship games were not played on Owen Field.
It was blustery on Saturday night. Snow began falling heavily after the players warm up and continued on and off throughout the game. That did not hurt the Sooners, who disposed of the Mountaineers 56-28. OU (9-2 overall, 8-0 in Big 12) remains alive for its first undefeated Big 12 season since 2004. The Sooners also had unbeaten Big 12 regular seasons in 2000 and 2003.
The Bedlam game on December 3 (kickoff will be at either 11 am or 2:30 pm) will be the conference championship game this year. But, next year the Big 12 Conference championship game will return at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, after a six-year hiatus.
Standing in the way of the Sooners’ 10th conference title in 18 seasons under Stoops is intrastate rival Oklahoma State (9-2, 7-1). Stoops is 13-4 all-time against the Cowboys.
