At what point do we stop saying “Oh that’s just Big 12 offenses”, and start saying “Our defense just sucks!”
What occurred with the Sooner defense Saturday night in Lubbock was almost unimaginable. The stats were mind boggling. Over 850 yards of offense given up. An astounding 59 points scored by Tech.
And maybe the most damning of stats: The Red Raiders converted 20 of 25 third d
That was the OKLAHOMA SOONERS defense. The home of the SELMON BROTHERS and GEORGE CUMBY. GRANVILLE LIGGINS, ROD SHOATE and JIMBO ELROD. RICKY DIXON, TONY.CASILLIAS and THE BOZ. TOMMIE HARRIS, DERRICK STRAIT and BRANDON EVERAGE. TEDDY LEHMAN, GERELD MCCOY and ROY WILLIAMS. ROCKY CALMUS, TORRANCE MARSHALL and TONY JEFFERSON.
The list of great Sooner defenders goes on and on. I wonder what some of these great Sooners thought about Saturday night? Probably things I cannot put in print.
What’s more embarrassing is the lack of effort from the senior “leadership” on the defensive side of the ball.
Score 66 points and you still have to recover an onside kick in the last two minutes to preserve the win???. Amazing.

These are the best we have? There isn’t anyone behind them that will at least try harder? Bob and Mike Stoops said all the right things after the game. It was embarrassing….everyone was at fault, players and coaches…. we will look at the tape and make corrections…need to move on..after all it was a win..etc..etc..
We’ve heard it all before. Just have to hope they do get better, because there will be no staff changes that matter on that side of the ball.
As bad as the defense was, the offense was almost perfect. Baker, Mixon, Westbrook, really the entire offense.
Of course they needed to be perfect to win that game. Score 66 points and you still have to recover an onside kick in the last two minutes to preserve the win???. Amazing.
Well, moving on, the coaches and players get a virtual bye this Saturday at home as the Kansas Jayhawks come to town for a 6pm kickoff.
Oh they might hang around for a quarter or two, but the offense should be able to name their score. And if the defense doesn’t come out with their hair on fire ready to dominate a clearly inferior opponent after lasts week’s performance, then we really know something’s wrong and it’s not getting fixed. At least not this year.
Worry Meter gets a rest this week hovering at 5%. With all that being said… BOOMER!!!
