Bevo XIV will not appear at the Oklahoma-Texas game in Dallas on Saturday due to a “life threatening illness.”
In a statement released Wednesday, the school said the 2,100-pound national champion grand show steer has “a life-threatening condition still being explored by his veterinarians.”
“Bevo is a fighter, a symbol of strength and who fans across the world care deeply about,” said Ricky Brennes, the executive director of the Silver Spurs Alumni Association which oversees the animal’s care. “We are carefully monitoring Bevo’s condition at this time and will update the public as we find out more about his condition.”
