SEC! SEC! SEC!….Sorry, couldn’t help myself.
With tongue firmly planted in cheek, that is what I started yelling when Zach Sanchez intercepted the ball in the second over time last Saturday night against the Tennessee Volunteers. It was just so satisfying to again beat the almighty SEC for the third straight year. This time in front of 105,000 screaming SEC fans in a true road game.
Once again Stoops and the boys stood up and declared the SEC is not all that. Early in game week you could tell this one would be a heated contest. Bob Stoops innocently enough answered a question that apparently riled up Volunteer fans.
He was asked what effect playing in front of 105,000 fans at storied Neyland Stadium might have on his team. His answer was basically we play in front of full stadiums almost every week. And we’ve been on the road at Notre Dame and Florida St. in front of huge angry crowds and have won . So he didn’t think it would be an issue.
HOW DARE HE NOT BOW DOWN TO THE SEC AND COWER AT THE THOUGHT OF PLAYING AT LEGENDARY NEYLAND STADIUM!!! What is he thinking?!? He’s disrespecting us!
Then Eric Striker had the audacity to suggest that it’s all football and the SEC is nothing special and he didn’t understand why the media keeps blowing smoke up their ass.
SACRILEGE!! HOW CAN HE SAY THAT ABOUT THE GREATEST TEAMS AND GREATEST ATHLETES EVER TO GRACE THE GRIDIRON!! He’s disrespecting us!! Striker’s comments were so offensive to Butch Jones that he blew them up and posted them all over the Tennessee locker room as motivation.
Well Butch, I guess Striker and Stoops knew what they were talking about. After getting down 17-0 and playing terrible offense for three quarters, the Sooners executed the biggest comeback in the history of Neyland Stadium. They kept their poise and refused to lose. Baker Mayfield, Sterling Shepard and the rest of the team wrote another chapter of Sooner Magic.
Mayfield made play after play to account for four touchdowns in the fourth quarter and overtime. Throwing three TD passes and running one in on a fourth down to keep the Sooners alive.
Shepard reminded us of why he is arguably the best receiver in college football catching two of those touchdown passes, both in spectacular fashion.
And in the end, Zach Sanchez and the defense capped off three plus quarters of stellar defense with the overtime interception to end the game.
Yes, another victory over the lauded SEC. But for the Sooners, this is becoming old hat. SEC!! SEC!! SEC!! indeed….
This one is getting a little scary. That’s why the Worry Meter is at 40% this week. The Sooners need to start fast and finish this one early.

Now we move on to another TU when the Tulsa Hurricane come to Norman in the first rooster kick off of the year this Saturday. Man. Talk about a trap game. The week after a big victory in comeback fashion in SUC, I mean SEC country and the week before a much anticipated bye Against an in state school that has averaged over 600 yards of offense a game and has had 15 pass plays of over 20 yards in two games?
Tulsa is not going to be a push over. This will be the first week that the back end defense gets a big test. Tulsa has been throwing the ball with great success. Over 370 yards passing per game average. They are Baylor lite, running the same offense. Sanchez and crew had better be ready.
And you know anytime Tulsa plays the Sooners they are going to be pumped. Add to that the fact that Darlington and Kasitati are banged up and possibly might not play? The offensive line has very little depth as it is.
This one is getting a little scary. That’s why the Worry Meter is at 40% this week. The Sooners need to start fast and finish this one early. Don’t let Tulsa hang around and think they can possibly pull off the upset.
With all that being said….BOOMER!!!
