Call it a tale of two halves. Absolute ineptitude in the first half and absolute dominance in the second.
Coming into the Tech game two factors would have seemed to dictate the game plan. Cody Thomas was a freshman QB starting his first game on the road in crazy Lubbock, Texas against the Red Raiders. And Texas Tech had the worst run defense in the country.
No brainer right? Take the pressure off your rookie QB and run it straight down their throat with your stellar running backs and a veteran offensive line that out weighs almost all NFL units.
Nope. Not Josh Heupel. Let’s sling the ball all over the yard to the tune of 3 interceptions and a 7 point halftime deficit.
But nothing is really a surprise from this coaching staff anymore. Either they are too arrogant and will run whatever offense they want, regardless of what the other team’s weakness is, or they are just too stupid to realize it. You decide.

I’m really without words. I would assume Stoops told Heupel at the half that if he didn’t start running the ball he was walking home. One would have thought he could have been told that during the previous week game planning.

Anyway, in the second half OU threw the ball a grand total of 3 times and managed to score 5 touchdowns and gain over 300 yards rushing in the last 2 quarters alone. Go figure.
Who knows what will happen this Saturday when the surprising Kansas Jayhawks come to town for ANOTHER 11am kickoff. If you haven’t noticed, Kansas is probably the best 3-7 team in the country. They took TCU and Ok State to the wire. And fought Texas the whole game. They don’t quit.
And take a look at these Big XII stat comparisons between OU and Kansas: Passing Defense KU 5th, OU 10th. Rushing Defense OU 2nd, KU 7th. Total Defense KU 6th, OU 8th. Passing Offense KU 7th, OU 9th. Rushing Offense OU 1, KU 10th. Total Offense OU 4th, KU 9th.
Looks like two teams that are very evenly matched. Whether we like it or not, this game might be a close one. The Sooners can’t look over to the other sideline and think, oh it’s just Kansas.
Add into the mix an 80% chance of rain and things could get very interesting Saturday morning. As such the worry meter is at 50%. Will the coaching staff have the sense to take what the Jayhawks give them? Your guess is as good as mine. With all that being said…BOOMER!!! — Dave
