That was probably the most disappointing win over Texas I can remember.
I think I have given up on this offense being anything but mediocre. If the coaching staff is not going to run Knight, that is all this offense will be is mediocre.
Knight has big trouble with accuracy and cannot read the defense as a drop back pocket passer. He actually improves on these issues when he rolls out. But they won’t even let him do that. So this is about as good as the offense is going to get.
We have to hope the offensive line can impose it’s will in the run game against eight and nine in the box. Tall order, but that is what we have to hang our hat on.
But the Sooners won the game and that is all that matters each week. You can look terrible on both sides of the ball as long as you win. And did we look terrible.
I have already mentioned the offense, but the defense was just as bad. For a while there in the third quarter and early in the fourth, it looked like the defense had figured it out and was in control. Up 31-13 in the fourth and everything was looking good. Then they just fell apart. Two touchdowns in what seemed like two minutes and the game was back on.
I swear the OU safeties have no clue when they go to a nickel or dime package. But again, we won the game. And that is what matters. Not stats or moral victories. Did you hear that Texas? We won. You lost.
Noticed after the game that the Texas fans all stayed and applauded the Texas football players and sang The Eyes of Texas. That’s nice and all. Support the team. But in the end you lost. Moral victories are for programs like Iowa St. and Kansas. They aren’t supposed to be for a college blue blood program like Texas. Or, maybe now they are?
Anyway, win and move on. The coaching genius Bill Snyder brings his Kansas St. Wildcats to Norman this Saturday for an 11am rooster kick off.
KSU almost beat Auburn and are 2-0 in Big XII play. They are solid in most every department except maybe field goal kicker.
They won’t make the mistakes Texas made and will give OU everything they have. And they are coming off a bye week giving Snyder extra time to prepare for the Sooners.
Of course the worry meter is redlined at 96%. OU is at home for the first time in 5 weeks. Hopefully this pushes the game in our favor. We need all the help we can get. With all that being said…BOOMER!!! — Dave
