WORRY METER SPIKING AT 95 PERCENT!
In this day and age of parity in college football, it is almost impossible to win them all.
That certainly was the case for several teams last Saturday. Half the top 10 was beaten including four of the top six.
That was the only solace to be taken after the Sooners let one slip away against TCU. Don’t get me wrong. Give the Horned Frogs credit. They played about as well as they could and won fair and square.
But did OU play their “A” game? Not even close. That to me is what made the loss so frustrating. There was plenty of blame to go around. Offense, defense, and coaching. Everyone had a hand in it.
If OU wins out, and that’s a big if, I think they are still in the final four. But there needs to be alot of work done before that happens. And it starts with Texas week.

But if I was forced to pick on someone, it has to be Offensive Coordinator Josh Heupel. As bad as the defense was, they only gave up 7 points in the second half. And toward the end of the game they created turnovers and came up defensive stands to give the offense the ball several times when one score puts OU ahead. But for some reason, Josh panicked.
With the score tied at 31-31, OU ran 12 pass plays to only 2 running plays. Only three passes connected and one pass led to a pick six for TCU that ended up being the winning score.
This was after the Sooners came out of half time and drove the field to take the lead predominantly running the ball. But for some reason, once the Horned Frogs tied it, Heupel abandoned the running game.
And what makes it worse is the fact that he knew Trevor was having a bad day passing the ball outside of the bombs to Shepard.
Knight could not hit a 8 yard pass to save his life Saturday. But there’s Heupel dialing up pass after pass. I could not understand it. He went completely away from what Knight and the offense can do which is run the ball.
He is trying to make Knight a pocket passer when they recruited him for a QB run game. I don’t get it. He didn’t even bother to have him roll out on any of the pass plays to at least give him a run option.
There must not be ANYTHING behind Knight if the coaching staff is that terrified of him getting hurt.
Again, the only silver lining is that seemingly everyone else lost last Saturday as well. If OU wins out, and that’s a big if, I think they are still in the final four. But there needs to be alot of work done before that happens. And it starts with Texas week.
Texas. Man I hate those bastards.
If anyone thinks this game is a gimme they are sorely mistaken.
The Texas defense held on for a long time against Baylor last Saturday. Baylor’s all everything air attack had something like 110 yards for the whole game. Texas had more than enough defense to win that game. They just didn’t have the offense to help them out.
The Bears eventually wore them down with the ground game for about 250 yards. But it took them 60 rushes to get there.
Swoopes is no Boykin, but he is getting better every game. If he ever puts together a full game of solid quarterbacking along with that defense, look out. The Sooners will have their hands full on both sides of the ball.
I don’t see our offense scoring more than 21 to 28 points against the Texas defense, if that. Our defense is going to have win this one.
That’s why the worry meter remains at 95% this week. If you thought it was bad after the TCU loss, just wait and see what happens if the Longhorns pull another upset.
This Texas team? Beat OU? You have got to be kidding! Seems like I heard that last year. With all that being said…BOOMER!!! — Dave
