Sooners coach Bob Stoops got a pay raise last week when the OU board of regents upped his salary to a whopping $5.25 million.
That’s up from about $5 milion last season. The pay puts his salary at No. 2 among highest college football coaches salaries, right behind Alabama’s Nick Saban.
Most of that money comes from private funds. His base salary will remain $325,000. He receives $700,000 for staying at Oklahoma. His income from private money will increase from $3,725,000 to $4,025,000.
Bob’s brother Mike got a raise, too. His defensive coordinator salary increased to $850,000 for next season, up $200,000. After the defense’s performance in the Sugar Bowl, shutting down the vaunted “Bama offense, it is no wonder.
Oklahoma went 11-2 last season to take Stoops’ career record to 160-39. The Sooners’ win over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl positioned Oklahoma as one of the favorites to contend for the National Championship in 2014. Stoops would receive a $275,000 bonus for winning the title.
