Our guide to watching college football this weekend:
Yes, there are a few other games this weekend besides the opening in Norman (OU vs. Louisiana-Monroe — on FOX pay per view at 6 pm CT). Here is our recommendation for viewing the other games…
Thursday, August 29 – The games start early, at 5 pm CT with North Carolina at No. 6 South Carolina on ESPN; but, at 6 pm we’re skipping to ESPNU to catch Tulsa at Bowling Green. We have to stick with the home state team here. After that it’s Ole Miss at Vanderbilt, which will have started at 8:15 pm CT on ESPN to close out the night.
Friday, August 30 – We’re “scouting” a future opponent Texas Tech at 7 pm on ESPN in their road contest at SMU in Dallas. We might surf over to the Big Ten Network and catch a little of Western Michigan at Michigan State (also a 7 pm kickoff) if things get boring.
Saturday, August 31 – ESPN College Game Day starts the morning at 9 am CT, where once again Lee Corso plays the village idiot. After that a little of Purdue at Cincinnati on ESPNU (starts at 11 am); then Rice at No. 7 Texas A&M at noon on ESPN. At 2:30 pm comes Mississippi State at No. 13 Oklahoma State on ABC/ESPN2 (just the first half because the two-quarterback Cowboys will put this one away by halftime), then switch to Syracuse vs. Penn State (also a 2:30 CT kickoff) to see if OU transfer Drew Allen gets any playing time for the Orangemen. At 4:30 pm its Alabama on the road at Va. Tech on ESPN, then we’ll turn over to ESPNU at 6 pm to catch Mike Leach’s Washington State team go to the Plains of Auburn.
The best TV watching of the day will be No. 5 Georgia at No. 8 Clemson on ABC at 7 pm. (We’ll skip New Mexico State at UT on the Longhorn Network, but channel surfing over to the Big Ten Network to see some of Wyoming at Nebraska might be fun for nostalgia sake). At 8 pm we’ll jump from down south to Fort Worth to catch No. 12 LSU at No. 20 TCU on ESPN, hoping the Big 12 represents. To close out then night we’ll see the last quarter of Northwestern at California on ESPN2 (kickoff at 9:30 pm).
Sunday, Sept. 1 – The afternoon starts at 2:30 pm to see Norman North’s Tyler Tettleton quarterback Ohio against No. 9 Louisville on ESPN. We’d love to see the Colorado vs. Colorado State riot at 5 pm, but who the heck gets CBS Sports Network?
Monday, Sept. 2 – One game: No. 11 Florida State at Pittsburgh on ESPN at 7 pm. Phew! That’s a good long weekend of college football.
