If you ever get close enough to the field at a ULM game, take a close look at redshirt freshman cornerback Justin Backus’ cleats.
It may just seem like words to the average fan, but for the Mesquite, Texas, native it’s a reminder of what he wants to accomplish during his career as a Warhawk.
“I wrote, ‘This is where we live and work,’” Backus said. “Some just rent, but I plan to own the real estate that I control so I’m going in with that mindset. I plan and all corners plan on no one making any catches.”
In ULM’s 3-3-5 scheme, the cornerbacks are what head coach Todd Berry calls on “an island.”
