Last Saturday we witnessed the worst OU defensive effort in maybe the history of Sooner football. What made this even crazier is that the Sooners actually won the game by coming up with what may have been one of the best come from behind offensive performances in the history of Sooner football.
What a frustrating game to watch. Mike Stoops kept throwing out six and seven DBs and West Virginia kept saying “Thank you very much” and running the ball for 50 yards a pop.
The lack of adjustment was almost comical. Why West Virginia didn’t run the ball in the last 27 seconds is beyond me. Yeah they had no time outs, but each 1st down is a time out in college football. We wouldn’t have stopped them.
Lucky for us Holgorsen forgot what got them to that point and threw the ball to no avail.
Also lucky for us was Landry’s clutch performance down the stretch, and really the whole game.
Landry haters are gonna hate, and I am one of them sometimes, but he saved our bacon.
Coming from behind in the last two drives he was 9 of 10 for 135 yards and 2 touchdowns including the winning score that he audibled to on 4th down. Enough said.
So what does this mean with the pokies coming to town this Saturday? Hopefully it means the team and the coaches are angry and want to take it out on someone.
Hopefully the coaches realize that the defense played the last two weeks won’t cut it and make some adjustments.
Hopefully they realize that OSU has just as good an offense and a better defense than either Baylor or West Virginia.
Hopefully….That is why the Worry Meter is at 95% this week. Losing two in a row to little brother hasn’t happened in a decade. Hopefully the Sooners don’t let it happen for decades to come.
With all that being said..BOOMER!!!
By the way, not that the Sooners need any more motivation, but do any of you recall what OSU offensive coordinator Todd Monken said in the off season about OU and Landry Jones?
In case you forgot, this is what he said to Dave Ubben of CBS Sports:
“It didn’t take long when ol’ Broyles went down and OU started running Bell to think, ‘Do we have our guy?’ That didn’t take long,” Monken told David Ubben. “Landry Jones went from like. ‘I’m the man,’ to all of a sudden, ‘I haven’t thrown a touchdown pass (and) I’m fumbling it over my head to Oklahoma State. I gotta go back and see my quarterback guru.'”
Now I and several OU fans have been hard on Landry, but we’re fans. This came from a Division 1 college football coach getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a year.
Getting paid to be a LEADER of men. To be an EXAMPLE. To teach them discipline, values and SPORTSMANSHIP.
And he is in the media trash talking a college kid half his age? I’m surprised that Mike Gundy wants someone like that to be on his staff.
Gundy goes on a rant and screams at a reporter for saying something critical about his quarterback, but it’s ok for his offensive coordinator to trash someone else’s QB?
Guess that’s the kind of person he wants to represent OSU. You stay classy pokes. Once again….BOOMER!!! — Dave
