First, about last week…. Charlie Weis came into the OU-Kansas game with one objective: Try not to lose by too much.
He milked that clock as much as he could to keep the ball out of the hands of the OU offense. Little did he know that kicking the ball to the OU special teams was just as hazardous.
Justin Brown made up for an earlier fumble by returning a punt for a quick six points. And little used Roy Finch made up for…well…we don’t know what he made up for because all the coaches ever say is we love Roy. But he must have done something because he is too talented not to be getting more snaps.
Anyway, Finch took a kickoff to the house and the drubbing was on. Despite Charlie’s best efforts the Sooners rolled to a 52-7 win last Saturday night.
Which brings us to the most anticipated game of the year. Saturday night Notre Dame comes to Norman to try and stop OU’s current home field winning streak at one.
With such a big game on deck the Worry Meter predictably is hovering at about 85% this week for this huge contest.
Now the rational side of me looks at this game and thinks the following: Two of the most storied and prestigious programs in the history of college football meet for only the tenth time this Saturday at Owen Field.
Both top ten clubs that each have their strengths and weaknesses. If played on paper, one might expect a close hard fought battle won by Oklahoma on maybe the last series of the game, but it could go either way. Notre Dame has a stingy defense that will be a huge challenge to the Oklahoma offense. If they rattle Landry Jones, all bets are off and the Sooners could be in trouble.
On the other hand if Oklahoma gets off to a fast start, the Irish offense could have trouble keeping up and the Sooners could roll.
No matter the outcome though, the fans will be treated to a wonderful night of competition from two of the most classy programs you will find. Not to mention the great camaraderie in the stands between two well informed and enthusiastic fan bases.
However, the irrational part of me looks at the game a little differently….I CAN’T %$&#!#% STAND THOSE HOLIER THAN THOU #&$%#@’S!
I HOPE WE SCORE A HUNDRED $%#&@#% POINTS ON THOSE SELF RIGHTEOUS @#%$&%#@!?!%’S! OVER RATED &%#•%#!’S! I DON’T #$%&%$# GET HOW EVERYONE FROM THE &#%$#$@ MEDIA TO THE #&$%$#@ BCS KISSES THEIR &%#$&%# &$% ALL THE &%$#$&% TIME! AND HOW CAN ANY CONFERENCE LET THOSE #$!%&%#$@’S COME IN WITH &%#$;%$ ONLY THERE $%&#!# NON REVENUE SPORTS AND LET THEIR %&$!#%$# FOOTBALL TEAM REMAIN %&$!#?@ INDEPENDENT?!?! IT’S $&%#!&@ BEYOND ME! THEY HAVEN’T HAD A &$%#?!@ RELEVANT &%$#&%@ PROGRAM IN &%#$!?! TWENTY YEARS! THEY FINALLY %#&$!%# PULLED THEIR &%$#!?@ HEADS OUT AND ACTUALLY HIRED A &%$#!%@ DECENT COACH! AND NOW THE $&%#!&@ MEDIA, %$#&@# THAT THEY &%#$&!@ ARE, ARE READY TO &$%#!&@ CROWN THEM A $&%#!&$% DYNASTY AFTER $&%$#&@ SEVEN GAMES! IF STOOPS &$%#;#@ GETS THE CHANCE, HE NEEDS TO &$%#!&% RUN THE %&$#!?# SCORE UP AND THEN &#%$!%@ TAKE THE $&%#&%$ FOOTBALL AND #%$&%!# SHOVE IT THE &%#$ UP &$%#!%@ RUDY’S %!@! IT’S %$ &#%$%#& $&%#’S #%$!!!
HOLY #%$&, WHERE’S THE TYLENOL?!?!?….But I digress.
Here’s to a well played and spirited game between two wonderful and respected programs that, win or lose, will be remembered with fondness for years to come.
With all that being said…BOOMER!!!! — Dave
