Well as they always say, a win’s a win.
However, too many disturbing events unfolded last Saturday night under the west Texas sky against UTEP.
And, depending on whether you’re a glass is half empty person, or a glass is half full person will determine if you still have hope, or if you are resigned to the fact that a return trip to El Paso for the Sun Bowl is awaiting our Sooners at the end of the season.
So let’s look at a few things and you can decide for yourselves.
Half full: Landry seems to have developed better mobility in the pocket, thus being able to scramble and complete passes he may not have been able too in the past.
Half empty: Landry is going to have to use this new skill way too often as his offensive line has more holes than Swiss cheese.
Half full: In Mike Stoops first game back as defensive coordinator, his unit pitched a shut out. Half empty: That same unit also gave up over 200 yards rushing to UTEP.
Half full: It was the first game of the year. Breaking in new players. The offensive line just needs to gell. It was away from home and late at night. Just not ideal conditions to play the opening game.
Half empty: Did you see what Alabama did with it’s first game of the year away from home breaking in new players?
You see where this is going. Valid arguments can be made for each side. Me, well, I think I would say my glass is 1/4 empty. Not panicking yet, but there sure needs to be huge improvement in game two.
With Florida A&M coming to town, the improvement does need to be HUGE.
How could it not be? An FCS school that was beaten by Tennessee State in its opener should come no where near to giving the Sooners a game.
Add the fact that their head coach just suspended 4 players that include their best wide receiver and their best defensive back, OU should be able to name the score. Shouldn’t they?
Unfortunately that’s kind of what I thought before last Saturday. Worry meter is half full at 50%. Not that I am worried we will lose the game. I’m worried we win, but look sloppy again doing it.
With all that being said…BOOMER!!
