For us, the launching of Soonersports TV on Fox Sports Oklahoma is like crimson crack for a Sooner junkie.
The two-hour pre-game show that preceded the OU-UTEP broadcast brought insightful comments from former QB coach Chuck Long and perhaps our favorite OU QB of all-time, Steve Davis. Interviews of Landry Jones and Kenny Stills may have appeared a little too public relations orchestrated, but they still gave us a view of the relationship between the QB and his go-to receiver.
They even had impromptu coach comments from the El Paso airport upon the team’s arrival on Friday. The coverage continued Monday with the live broadcast of Coach Bob Stoops’ press conference. Bob is going to get tired of this. But we won’t.

If you are wandering around Sooner tailgates near Campus Corner this weekend and see a guy who looks remarkably like a character on your favorite AMC drama, Breaking Bad, it is not your imagination.
Our tailgate captain, Chris, did indeed play the role of Dan Waschberger, the bagman lawyer on the hit TV show this season.
For the UTEP game Chris was back in Norman to host a top-knotch indoor tailgate (dubbed “Billygate”) at his place of business, The Actor Factory.
No one was shot, blown up or arrested during the making of the tailgate. And, he didn’t rat out anybody.

Texas was so concerned about fans not filling DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium for the UT-New Mexico game this week they offered tickets for $30 in a Labor Day sale.
On October 27 they play Kansas, so we can expect a Halloween sale for that game.

There’s a good read on Kenny Stills by Andrew Gilman on the Fox Sports website following the WR’s 120-yard night in El Paso. If Kenny can keep being the go-to guy for Landry Jones he’s going to have a true “break out” year.

Top five things we learned from Week One of college football:
1. Sportswriters don’t understand that trends require at least two reference points. Just because Wisconsin, South Carolina and Oklahoma did not win BIG, a conclusion that they stink is a bit premature. Don’t you think?
2. Mustard is not only good for hot dogs, it’s also good for dehydration/cramping.
3. Steve Davis looks stately in his gray hair (as seen on Soonersports TV before the UTEP game).
4. One of the FOX HD channels that had been carrying OU-UTEP switched to Hawaii high school football in the fourth quarter. Apparently the guy at the controls was a UTEP fan who had seen enough. Or, an Oklahoma fan who had seen enough.
5. Norman North grad Tyler Tettleton showed the nation he’s a pretty darn good QB, completing 31 of his 41 passes for 324 yards, adding 47 yards on nine carries and accounting for all three of his Ohio team’s touchdowns in the 24-14 win over Penn State.

Finally, you have to love West Virginia Coach Dana Holgorsen’s response to the possibility that other teams are deciphering hand signals of the Mountaineer offense. To put it bluntly, he has one particular hand signal for ’em. Listen below.
