The Sooners are ranked No. 4 in the USA Today Coaches Preseason Poll. This marks the 10th time in 14 seasons under head coach Bob Stoops that the Sooners will open the season ranked in the Top Five and the 12th consecutive year in which OU will be featured in the preseason Top 10.
Oklahoma received one first place votes. Other first place votes went to LSU, Alabama, USC and Florida State. Oklahoma will face six teams during the regular season ranked in the preseason USA Today Coaches Top 25, including West Virginia (11), Texas (15), TCU (17), Oklahoma State (19), Kansas State (21) and Notre Dame (24).
