Oklahoma senior center Ben Habern, who was expected to be a four-year starter, has ended his football career because of lingering effects from back and neck injuries, Coach Bob Stoops said.
Habern, who started 30 games in his career for OU began starting as a true freshman in 2009, and started all 14 games in 2010 as a sophomore. But, his career has been fraught with injuries, beginning with a broken leg his freshman season.
Last season, Habern started just six games due to an arm injury suffered early in the season.
“Our coaching staff knows this was a difficult decision for Ben,”OU head coach Bob Stoops said. “Ben has been a consummate leader for our team, both on and off the field. We appreciate the toughness that Ben has displayed, and we wish him the very best as he completes his education at OU.”
