Oklahoma will play Coach Bob Stoops’ alma mater Iowa in the Insight Bowl in Tempe on December 30. The two schools accepted invitations to the bowl at Sun Devil Stadium. Kickoff will be at 8 pm Mountain Time (9 pm Central).

The Sooners dropped to No. 14 in the BCS after the loss to Oklahoma State. They are ranked No. 19 in the Coache’s Poll. The Sooners will make their 45th bowl appearance and have played the Hawkeyes one time in program history, a 21-6 win on Sept. 15, 1979, in a game that saw current Stoops play as a freshman defensive back for the Hawkeyes.

Oklahoma (9-3, 6-3) finished the season fourth in the Big 12 while Iowa (7-5, 4-4) finished fourth in the Legends division of the Big 10.

The game marks OU’s second appearance in the Insight Bowl (previously called the Copper Bowl) and Iowa’s second consecutive trip to the bowl. The Hawkeyes defeated Big 12 representative Missouri 27-24 in the 2010 edition of the game. Oklahoma lost 31-6 to BYU in 1994 in Coach Gary Gibbs’ last season.
