Sooner helmets will show the Thunderbird logo of the 45th Infantry Brigade when Oklahoma takes the field in Bedlam.
The Sooners and the Cowboys will be wearing the familiar emblem of the Oklahoma Army National Guard’s 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT) by wearing the 45th’s historic Thunderbird emblem on the back of their helmets on Saturday night.
The 45th IBCT is currently deployed to Afghanistan and Kuwait and are expected to return to Oklahoma in March of 2012.
“On behalf of the Oklahoma National Guard, I would like to thank President David Boren, President Burns Hargis and athletic directors Joe Castiglione and Mike Holder for honoring the 45th IBCT during what may be the most exciting and critical game this season for both Oklahoma teams,” said Maj. Gen. Myles Deering, the adjutant general for Oklahoma.
This is the first time that the 45th IBCT’s Thunderbird will be worn by either team. The emblem was last worn by Army’s Brandon Thompson during the Army vs. Navy game in 2007.
