Hang on: Bedlam Worry Meter at 100 Percent

by

Reading some of the Oklahoma State message boards this week, it’s interesting to see what is being discussed. Of course they are supremely confident that not only are they going to win on Saturday, they think it won’t even be close.

One should have confidence in their team and they very well may win. But to say it won’t even be close, that’s just ignoring the recent history of this series.

Over the past 12 years, in which OU is 10-2 against Oklahoma State, the only blowouts have been administered by the Sooners.

The closest OSU has gotten to “blowing out” OU in the last decade was a 10 point win in 2002. That also happens to be the last time OSU actually won. And remember, OSU was favored by 3 points last year and lost. They were favored in 2009 and lost, by a shut out.

This year the line opened again with OSU favored by 3. OU meanwhile has posted victories of 43, 28, 32 and 27 points in the same time period. Once again, OSU might win, but I don’t think a blowout is in the cards.

The other thing that is being boasted about amongst some Aggie fans is the fact that they have already earned a share of the Big 12 title even if they lose this weekend.

The Big 12 in their infinite wisdom has said that if OU wins, OU, OSU and K-State (if they beat Iowa St.) will all be co-champions and will all receive a trophy since they will have identical 7-2 records in conference play. This despite the fact that OU would own head to head wins over osu and K-State should OU win Saturday.

What happened to the slogan “One True Champion” being thrown around at Big XII media days earlier this year? That was the Big XII saying “Hey, this is great! Now that we only have 10 teams everyone will get to play each other and we will finally have one true champion!”.

Umm..I guess not if you’re going to award THREE TROPHIES if OU and KSU win Saturday. THAT’S WEAK SAUCE.

If OU happens to win, we all know who deserves the trophy and who doesn’t. Of course OSU could make all this a moot point Saturday night. And, I guess I shouldn’t begrudge the Pokes the satisfaction of claiming a co-conference championship. It’s been 35 years since they won any type of conference championship.

Ryan Broyles won

At OU we are too used to winning outright titles to the tune of 7 in the past 11 years to understand this.

And the Pokies should be excited. After all they are going for win number 17 out of 106 tries against the Sooners.

If they get it, that will boost their winning percentage vs OU to 16%! Which to me makes it funny that this game is even perceived as a rivalry. Usually rivalries are not so one sided.

In the paper on Wednesday OSU defensive coordinator Bill Young even intimated that it couldn’t be classified as a rivalry.

“It’s about time we beat OU. It’s been eight straight wins on their part. A rivalry is when they win one, we win one.” – Bill Young.

And if osu is going to get a win against the Sooners, this would be the year to do it. No Ryan Broyles, no Dominique Whaley, and no Ronnell Lewis.

And this just in, no Adam Shead.

That’s your starting running back, your most valuable offensive player, your most valuable defensive player, and now your starting left guard on the sidelines.

And on top of that, due to the rescheduling of the new Big XII, the game is in Stillwater for the second year in a row.

Everything is stacked against the Sooners this year. That’s why the worry meter is predictably at 100% this week.

However, I will say that in the past Bob and the boys have performed really well as an underdog. We shall see. With all that being said….BOOMER!!!! — Dave
