Sooners still playing for Big 12 crown, Boomer!

by

I can’t say that this season has not been a disappointment.

There was so much optimism coming into the year, not only from the fans but from the players and coaches. Bob himself said that it was about time the Sooners won another National Title.

But that is out the window with an inexplicable loss to Baylor.

Oklahoma’s first ever loss to Baylor. Guess there is a first time for everything.. Damn it.

Last week I thought this game was going to hinge on the offense. I even said Baylor was going to score some points, but our defense is stout and should hold them to a reasonable amount. Boy was I wrong.

It got so bad, I didn’t understand why Baylor didn’t just throw deep every play. It was painfully obvious that we couldn’t stay with their receivers, for whatever reason.

Granted, the offense had several mistakes and played far from great football, but 38 points should win you any game. This loss is on the defense. And to add insult to injury, we have lost not only our most valuable offensive player in Broyles, now our most valuable defensive player, Ronnell Lewis, is gone until a bowl game.

So now what? Hopefully the coaching staff can motivate this team after their ultimate preseason goal has been totally lost.

They need to convince the players that the season is not over. There is still a Big XII title out there to be had. And the first step in grabbing that trophy is this weekend against Iowa State.

The Cyclones are a well-coached team and will not be intimidated by the Sooners.

They are coming off the biggest win in their program’s history and will be looking to add to it. They are also going to catch a break with our home crowd this week. An 11 a.m. kickoff, cold and windy, Thanksgiving weekend and OU coming off a crushing defeat. I don’t see our crowd being all that pumped about this game.

However, the worry meter is only registering at about 30%. I think against OSU, Iowa State probably shot their…well, you know what I mean. I can’t see them being able to get geared up enough after that epic win to pull off a second upset in a row.

And, I sincerely hope OU is not looking ahead to the Pokies. They can’t afford to look ahead to anybody if they want to salvage anything from this disappointing season.

With all that being said….BOOMER!!!Dave
