Sitting in the stands at the A&M game I received a text from my brother. He sits on the first row behind the OU bench. He wrote that the doctors were talking to Broyles and then Broyles started to cry.
You know the rest of the story. I feel terrible for Ryan. What a heartbreaking way to end your career at OU.
But injuries are part of the game and unfortunately this year has not been kind to the Sooners in that respect. If Whaley going down was a concern, Ryan going down is darn near close to a panic.
Leadership, work ethic, and most important consistency was lost when Broyles hit the turf that day. How many times has Ryan converted the big third down to keep a drive going? Too many to count. And now he won’t be there. Ryan was Landry’s safety valve. When a big play was needed, he could always go to Ryan. And Ryan delivered.
He will be missed more than anyone knows.
But, Landry and the team have to move forward. Others have to step up. Baylor, ISU and OSU won’t feel sorry for us. They are licking their chops.
All of this is coach speak, but it’strue. Baylor is the first step in seeing how this team reacts. How this team deals with this adversity.
Baylor will put up some points, but our defense is stout and should hold them to a reasonable amount. So I think this game hinges on the offense. Baylor’s defense stinks. But so did Tech’s. And we couldn’t score against them for over two quarters, and when we did get it rolling it was to late. Now we have to do it without Ryan.
That’s why the worry meter is in the red at 80 percent this week. I know we have the talent to beat these guys. But right now, do we have the mentality?
With all that being said….BOOMER!! — Dave
