Sooners back on the winning track, 58-17

What a difference a week makes.

The Sooners went from the spoiled, following last week’s loss to Texas Tech, to the spoiler, blowing out previously unbeaten Kansas State 58-17 on Saturday in Manhattan.

The win was Oklahoma’s third road game win over a ranked team this season.

It also was Landry Jones’ most prolific game.  He threw for a school record 505 yards and five touchdowns, including 14 passes for 171 yards to All-American receiver Ryan Broyles.

The Sooners were actually behind, 17-14, early in the second quarter, and lead only 23-17 at halftime.  But the Sooners who came out of the locker room after halftime looked like a different set of Sooners who went in.  Oklahoma scored five straight touchdowns in five possessions to start the second half.

Actually, Oklahoma played with an attitude.  A shoving match with Kansas State players before the game even started set a more edgy tone for the Sooners, who felt embarrassed by the loss to the Red Raiders a week ago.

Jones’ passing total shattered the previous record of 468 yards he shared with Sam Bradford, while Broyles moved into first place on the Big 12’s career list with 4,499 yards receiving.

The game was marred by the serious season-ending leg injury to starting running back Dominique Whaley on the first play of the game.

Sophomore Roy Finch stepped in for Whaley.  He had 73 yards rushing, including a swift 31-yard touchdown run in the third quarter that started the rout.

WR Kenny Stills hauls in a Landry Jones pass for a Sooner touchdown.
