Monday morning quarterbacking

Unhappiness abounds, and other random notes…

No. 1 (Coach’s Poll) Oklahoma loses to a 25 point underdog on Saturday, and this morning sports reporters are all a-Twitter about Coach Bob Stoops denying them interview access to 19 and 20-year-old players (on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but not on Mondays).

Dear Dr. Spock: How old do they have to be when you stop spoon feeding them? Besides, there was enough crying Saturday night/Sunday morning at our house, so stop already.

The OU Alumni Band stayed long into the driving rainstorm during the game delay Saturday night — after the college band went indoors. The alums played Boomer Sooner to those crazy nuts who were happily getting drenched (see pic). It takes the old timers to know how to party.

Also, kudos to the OU concession guy who was hawking bottled water in the stands during the torrential downpour after 90 percent of the fans had fled to dryer ground. OK, yeah, he was nuts (c’mon, water?). But cool in a weird sort of way.

Former Oklahoma QB and now Michigan State all-around offensive player guy Keith Nichol made the game winning reception in the Spartans’ upset win over Wisconsin. At least a former Sooner caught a ball Saturday.

Can we have our old 1:30 pm kickoff’s back? The conference is about to be the Big 8 again, so why not? Meanwhile, ABC will broadcast OU-Texas A&M at either 2:30 pm or 7 pm. They are being wishy-washy about the time until after Saturday’s games.

Kansas State coach Bill Snyder (speaking of Big 8 coaches) said today he hoped OU won’t come to Manhattan, Kan., Saturday in a bad mood. “I’m going to send Bobby (Stoops) and his staff jokes out of the newspaper,’’ Snyder said. “Try to lighten the mood a little.’’

Oh yeah, that ought to do it. Billy.

ESPN is already floating the possibility of an Alabama-LSU rematch in the BCS Championship game, and they haven’t even played yet. Watch out Tide and Tigers. Ask the Sooners what looking ahead will do for ya.

Of course we take obvious enjoyment from the fact the national sports media are dissing Oklahoma State by doing this.

The real Skip Bayless has returned to ESPN, replacing the pro-OU guy who has been masquerading for him lately.

Myopic Skip said today the loss to Texas Tech was the worst ever suffered by the program.

Apparently Bayless was in his cryogenic chamber during the Blake years.  — Hunter, Alex & Mike
