Oklahoma vs. Missouri — pre-game notes

by

●From the “Let me provide Bulletin Board  material to motivate my opponent” category:

Missouri’s WR Jerrell Jackson (9-145 yds last year) said this week, “I don’t know what makes them (Oklahoma) tough,” he said. “There ain’t nothing tough about them to me. Just watching film, I’m just going to attack them like I attack every other opponent.”

To which Travis Lewis responded, via Twitter: “Someone made himself bait with those comments . . Should of just shut his mouth.”  Game on.

●Sooner WR Trey Franks has been suspended indefinitely for unspecified violation of team rules and will not play against Missouri, Coach Bob Stoops announced Tuesday.

●Missouri QB James Franklin is son of 1970s OU receiver Willie Franklin.  Franklin’s parents have a dog named Sooner, who lives with them in Corinth, Texas. Will Sooner be sleeping outside this week? “No, sir,” Franklin said. “He’s probably sleeping on my bed right now.” Franklin made it clear, though: Willie Franklin roots for the Tigers now, not his alma mater.

●The Kansas City Star reported Tuesday that the SEC has extended an informal invitation to Missouri, but is waiting to make it “formal” until the Big 12 implodes.

●Missouri has added key player Travis Ruth, who was missing in the Tigers’ first two games, to the starting lineup coming to Norman.  Ruth was anticipated to take over as the starting MU center. He played for the first time last week and said he had no problems with the Achilles tendon tear that sidelined him for much of August and those first two games.

●So far this year:  Missouri defeated Miami-Ohio 17-6, lost at Arizona St. 30-37 and defeated Western Illinois 69-0.
