Running stadium steps in July is brutal. So is swinging 35-pound training ropes in the blazing heat. Everything about offseason workouts are grueling. There has to be some carrot dangling at the end of the stick to pull players through.
Sooner players say there are many incentives for going through the brutal offseason grind. One of the biggest ones comes Saturday night when the top-ranked Sooners (1-0) face No. 5 Florida State (2-0) at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla.
“Games like this are the reason you come to Oklahoma,” defensive tackle Jamarkus McFarland said Monday.

During his first two weekly news conferences of the season, Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher addressed concerns he had about fan attendance at Doak Campbell Stadium.
Thanks to FSU students, there was no reason to sing that tune Monday morning.
