Hopefully Oklahoma can build on that win as they travel to LSU
I think the best thing about Oklahoma’s stunning victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide, was the fact
there was nothing at all about it that could be called a “fluke”.
Oklahoma dominated Alabama all night.
And they did it once again with a patchwork offensive line and still missing their top five wide receivers.
They held the Tide out of the end zone for the first time since 2011. They rushed for 257 yards against
their vaunted defense. And they held Bama almost 200 yards below their average offensive production,
including only 70 yards of rushing on the night.
OU also racked up almost 400 yards offense to go along with 3 forced turnovers by our defense. It was a masterful game plan by the Sooners on both sides of the ball. Run the ball to win the time of possession game and contain Jalen Milroe.
The much-maligned Oklahoma offensive line blew the Tide off the field play after play. It was a sight to behold.
Jackson Arnold had his best game of the year and may have been the toughest player on the field. Time after time he held the ball and ran it into the heart of the defense. Always gaining at least three or four yards and several times getting much more. He ended the night as the leading overall rusher between both teams with 131 yards.
It must have been so tempting for Finley to dial up a pass play on first or second down. But he stuck with the plan, and it worked beautifully.
The defense spied Milroe all night and showed everyone what he is, an athletic running back who is playing quarterback. He has flashes but is not a consistent passer.
In the end the Sooner faithful rushed the field for the first time since 2000, although be it a tad early. It was such a massive win for Brent Venables and the program that keeps the bowlstreak alive and is hopefully the springboard to a bright future in the SEC.
The Sooners have a big opportunity to build on it when they travel to LSU to take on the Tigers and some of the worst fans in college football. Just ask any Sooner supporter who went to the 2003 National Title game in New Orleans.
The Tigers have been up and down all year. Getting a big win and then turning around for a disappointing loss. They have a very good quarterback in Garrett Nussmeier who gets the ball out quick
and hardly ever gets sacked. He will be a big challenge for the defense.
However, the LSU defense is not up to their usual standards, ranking near the bottom of the SEC standings.
It will take another stellar effort by the Sooners to get the win in Death Valley, but they have finally shown that when they put it all together, they can play with anyone. So, the Worry Meter is at 75% this week.
Things are looking up Sooner fans. Happy Holidays everyone! With all the being said…BOOMER!!!
