Defense let down at Missouri; but let’s not concede Alabama game
Oklahoma went to Columbia, MO a few weeks ago and played well enough to win…for 58 minutes. And
this time it was actually the defense that folded in crunch time allowing the Tigers to escape with a win
on their homefield.
I realize it was the defense that gave the Sooners the lead on a scoop and score, but then with only two minutes left they allowed Missouri to drive the field and tie the game.
After that Jackson Arnold of course made a colossal blunder fumbling the ball allowing Missouri their own scoop and score to take the lead and eventually win the game.
A lot of people are piling on Arnold for that awful play saying that caused us to lose the game. But again, I am laying the blame at the feet of the defense. The defense is supposed to be the strength of this team.
We know the offense has been hampered by injuries to the wide receivers and inexperience in the offensive line all year. Both OU starting quarterbacks have had to run for their lives most of the season. You can’t tell me that they wouldn’t have performed much better this year with a healthy stable of wide receivers and a more experienced O-line.
Which is why I don’t understand all the quarterback hate this year. Had the defense not allowed the Tigers to drive the length of the field with only those two minutes left, the game would have been over and the Sooners win. They just needed one stop and Oklahoma’s in a bowl game.
As it stands now the Sooners are still stuck on five wins, with only two games left. The first of which sees the Alabama Crimson Tide coming to town this Saturday night.
Personally, I am not conceding this game by any means. I realize the Tide are coming off an impressive win at LSU and last weeks virtual scrimmage against Mercer.
But as a whole this is a down year for the SEC in my opinion. Don’t forget Vanderbilt beat Alabama as a 22-point underdog not that long ago.
As always, the Tide are loaded with talent, namely superstar quarterback Jalen Milroe under center and freshman phenom Ryan Williams catching passes all over the field.
But sometimes the ball bounces funny for everyone. Now that doesn’t mean the worry meter has cooled off this week, in fact it’s spiking again at 95%. I for one am hoping for a little Sooner Magic this weekend to get us into that bowl game.
Will all that being said…BOOMER!!!
