Dave: Despite back-to-back losses, Sooners are on the right track

by

Not so sure about the offensive coordinator

The past two weeks we have been reminded that the Sooners are only in the second year of a large
cultural change in Oklahoma Football.

First Kansas and now little brother.

Although we all know that little brother had more than a little help to defeat the Sooners for just the 20th time out of almost 120 tries.

And that lopsided record in favor of the Sooners is why this series is not a rivalry and will not be missed.

Although I do understand that it is little brother’s Super Bowl every year. Maybe they can get a
home and home with Tulsa going. They might have better luck.

At the beginning of the season, I had predicted we would go 9-3. We still have a shot at being even better than that. And we have certainly improved from last year.

I still believe Venables has us on the right track.

I however am not so certain about offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby. I don’t know if he is the one to take us to the SEC or not. Brent will have to make that decision.

And honestly, I don’t buy that Jackson Arnold would follow Lebby if he were let go. If Lebby left, would he go to a program that has as much prestige as Oklahoma?

Why would Arnold follow him to a lesser program? Especially if it’s outside the SEC? You want to compete against the best, don’t you? That is where we are told the Sooners are going.

No, I don’t think Arnold is any type of life raft for Lebby at this point. Stay tuned.

If Oklahoma doesn’t clean a lot of things up, and quick, they will be looking at three losses in a row when they face West Virginia this Saturday night at Owen Field.

Don’t look now, but West Virginia, who many picked last in the Big 12 this year, has hit their stride. They are 6-3, having in the past two games destroyed BYU and beaten UCF on the road.

The same UCF team that the Sooners almost lost too at home.

I don’t know where the odds makers are getting OU as a 13-point favorite. This is going to be a tight fit.

And if the Sooners keep turning the ball over like they have been as of late, they will lose this game.

That’s why the Worry Meter is at 95% this week. I’m sure the Sooners will be happy to be home after the past two weeks. Happier still if they can start another winning streak. With all the being said…BOOMER!!!
