Hopefully, coaches learned from KU game miscalls
Before the season started, I would have told you that a 9-3 outcome would be a great record in Brent’s
second year. Anything better than that would be amazing.
Now, I must admit I got caught up in the National Championship dreams just like a lot of Sooner fans.
After going 7-0, even with a close call against UCF, I still thought there was a good chance OU could go undefeated this year.
Dreams of 2000 lingered in our collective heads. Second year of a new head coach. Left-handed quarterback. We were reaching with the similarities but hoping that we would catch lightning in a bottle a second time.
However, sloppy play and even worse play calling put a stop to that last Saturday in Lawrence.
How frustrating it is to lose a game when you know you are the better team with more talent. I mostly place that loss on the coaches.
I understand the players probably did not play up to their capability. Whether that was due to reading too many press clippings about how good they were or the less-than-ideal weather conditions, I’m not sure. But they sure looked lethargic during most of that game.
But in the end, coaching decisions, mostly play calling cost us that game.
You need one first down to win and you run the ball into the line three times to get rid of the Jayhawk’s timeouts?
You still gave them the ball back with over two minutes left and they only needed a field goal to win. They didn’t need any time outs.
And even Brent said he should have called a time out to let his defense re-group when Kansas was
facing 4th and 6 on their winning drive.
Yes, the players did plenty to facilitate that loss, but coaching deserves most of the blame. They need to do better.
And they better do it quick as little brother awaits in Stillwater this Saturday afternoon.
After slow start, Pokes’ season has turned around
Mike Gundy and the pokes started out poorly this season mostly due to his inability to select a starting quarterback.
I got to hand it to that guy. He soaks that University for millions and millions of dollars each year and really is in no danger of being fired.
mean, who else are they going to get? An up and comer who if they do well will move on to a better job? That place is just a steppingstone to better employment to anyone outside of Gundy. And he knows it. And he leverages that with every contract he signs.
Anyway, they have righted the ship since a 2-2 start and to their credit are playing as well as any team in the Big 12.
They have an all-world running back and the quarterback position is starting to produce.
They would love nothing more than to win the last Bedlam battle for the foreseeable future on their home field. After all, this is their Super Bowl.
Oklahoma will have to play with the intensity that they played with against texas to win the game. So, the Worry Meter is peaking at 95%
