Oklahoma can’t afford to coast
In the pre-game interview with texas coach Steve Sarkisian he said he just wanted his team to have fun and play good football.
Rece Davis mentioned that texas said they have a “business like approach” to the game.
Now of course we don’t know what goes on in the texas locker room that may be different from the public face they are portraying.
However, I can tell you that from the actual OU locker room video before that game, the Sooners seem to take a much different approach to this contest.
The Sooners came out with their hair on fire and punched the longhorns in the mouth. And with 77 seconds left, executed a game winning drive for the ages.
It seems to me when talent is close or equal, Oklahoma usually wins that game.
But with texas, it’s never OU was the better team. It’s always that texas made too many mistakes like turnovers. They didn’t play their “A” game.
Maybe, just maybe the Sooner defense caused those turnovers by superior play. Maybe they were better coached and more prepared.
In the end though, all that matters is that scoreboard. And in the past 20 plus years, that scoreboard tends to favor the Sooners over the longhorns. As well it should.
No cakewalk on Saturday morning
A new challenge comes to Norman this Saturday morning when the University of Central Florida makes their inaugural and probably only trip to Owen Field for an 11:00am kickoff.
Coming in at 3-3 may cause some Sooner fans to think this will be a cakewalk.
Nothing can be farther from the truth. They have the fourth best offense in the NATION, and that has been without their starting quarterback who has been out the past 3 games with an injury.
Oh, and he will be back to play the Sooners.
They have been listed on the Joe Moore Award midseason honor roll for their offensive line play.
They are averaging almost 250 yards a game on the ground.
Gus Malzahn is their head coach who has won a National Title as the head coach of the Auburn Tigers and dealt mighty Alabama three losses as an underdog while with the Tigers.
Oklahoma will not be able to coast through this game. They will need to bring the same intensity they had against texas to make sure of a victory.
If they do, they will win. If they slack off, this will be a close game and UCF will have a great shot at the upset.
So, the Worry Meter is at 75% this week.
Buckle up for the second half of the season Sooner fans. Should be a wild ride. With all that being said…BOOMER!!!
