Dave: Be wary of ISU ‘trap’ game

Defense shines, offense will get better

The defense continues to impress this year as they held the Cincinnati Bearcats out of the end zone and
to just two field goals.

The offense did just enough against a really good defensive line, maybe the best we see all year, to secure the win and move forward.

I understand that people want to see the offense put up PlayStation numbers every week like they did against Tulsa and Arkansas State. That is just not going to happen.

But I believe it will get better. This offensive line has yet to gel, but with more playing time, they will. And if they can figure out a running back rotation along with that, I believe that the offense will be more potent and be able to produce more. They will need to be on the top of their game when a depleted Iowa State team comes to Norman for a 6pm kickoff this Saturday night.

Sooners face the toughest “D” in the league

Iowa State began the year under fire after several starting football players, including the quarterback, running back, wide receiver and members of the offensive and defensive lines were suspended for several games. A few of them outright left the team.

I’m not really sure what happened. But I bet it has been a tough thing to go through. Head coach Matt Campbell has had to gamble on starting a freshman at quarterback because of it. I’d be willing to wager the Cyclones didn’t see this coming. I’d give you odds on that.

However, even though they are 2-2, they have statistically the best defense in the Big 12.

And their two loses went down to the wire. The freshman quarterback threw for almost 350 yards and three touchdowns in his last outing, and they still have a talented receiving corp.

This is the classic trap game before the big showdown next week at the Cotton Bowl. Against a team that feels its back is against the wall and has nothing to lose. A team that OU should seemingly run out of the stadium.

That’s why the Worry Meter is at 60% this week.

If Oklahoma plays to their potential this will not be a close contest. If they are caught looking ahead…..with all that being said…BOOMER!!!
