Every game here on out is a tough one
We figured out at least one thing from the win against the Kansas Jayhawks a week ago Saturday. Dillion Gabriel is by far and away the MVP of this team.
Zero points against the shorthorns without Gabriel, 52 against Kansas with him.
And that wasn’t because the texas defense are world beaters. Far from it. It’s just that our back up QB situation is really that bad right now.
This team will go as far as Dillion and the offense will take them because the defense is still very much a work in progress.
We have an offense that can put up point to win games…as long as Gabriel stays healthy
It was hard to take watching the Oklahoma defense get shredded by a team with a freakin’ picture of Toucan Sam on the side of their helmet. But what else is new? The defense has been the Achilles Heal of this teams for years now.
At the very least we still have an offense that can put up at least some points to try and win games…as long as Gabriel stays healthy.
The Sooners need two more wins to become bowl eligible and that quest continues this Saturday morning on the road against the Iowa State Cyclones.
Every game here on out is a tough one and this one is no exception. The Cyclones are one of just a few programs that have beaten the Sooners more than once the past five years, and that was when we had perennial top 5 offenses.
Iowa St. has had difficulty scoring this season, but their defense more than makes up for it coming into this game as the Big 12’s top ranked unit, and it’s not really close.
The Cyclones are a Jekyll and Hyde team because to go along with that aforementioned top ranked defense, the league’s worst ranked offense also resides in Ames.
So while the Sooners suspect defense might (I emphasize might) have a good shot at being successful, the offense will have their work cut out for them.
All of this points to the worry meter staying at 100% again this week. The rebuild continues. With all that being said…BOOMER!!!
