There are a lot of different opinions about the Sooners moving to the SEC in time for the 2025 football season.
Probably sooner than that as it is unlikely, in my estimation anyway, that the Big 12 will last that long once the other teams start looking for lifeboats.
But you know the saying about opinions. They are like…well…everyone has one. In my very much uninformed opinion, and let’s face it, most everybody’s opinion on this subject is uninformed unless you are actually in the business of college athletics.
And let’s not kid ourselves, it is a BUSINESS. And business is booming. And to keep up with the business of big time college football, Oklahoma had to make the move to the SEC.
It’s more money, more elite athletes and bigger games. It’s not just more money for the University of Oklahoma Sooners, it’s more money for the elite student athletes that will come to the University of Oklahoma.
Let’s face it. Whether or not you like the SEC, they are the premier league in college football. They have ESPN in their pocket. And that is where the money is. More exposure in turn will mean more Name Image and Likeness (NIL) money for athletes that go to an SEC school.
Oklahoma saw the changing landscape of college football and Joe C. took action. I for one trust in Joe. He’s earned it. And for all the Oklahoma politicians and especially the new President of Little Brother University crying, “OU broke a bond of trust between our universities that has been in existence for decades”…. Just stop it. Don’t think for a minute that the okie pokies wouldn’t have done the same thing if the roles were reversed.
A lot of people want to see the so-called rivalry between the Sooners and the pokies continue out of conference.
First of all 90-18-7 isn’t a rivalry. It’s a slaughter. It’s Varsity vs. JV. That game does nothing for the Oklahoma Sooners. When we beat the pokes, we get no credit. We were supposed to win.
The once or twice every ten years the pokes pull out a win, it’s an upset even if the mullets fielded a decent team that year.
Besides, they have the ugliest damn mascot in college football. Or creepiest. Take your pick.
You will never hear me chanting S-E-C . . . but the SEC is the better play in the long run . . .
Bring on Bama, Georgia and Florida. No one will be able to complain about a crappy home schedule ever again.
Don’t get me wrong. You will never hear me chanting S-E-C at an OU game. Never. All I care about is the Oklahoma Sooners.
But the SEC is the better play in the long run. Just in my opinion.
Moving onto the 2021 football season, expectations are through the roof. As they should be.
I have my worries. (Of course.) The biggest being running back depth. Does anyone want to play running back at OU?!? Is Demarco running them off? Good grief. It seems like 15 running backs have left the program over the last year for one reason or another.
Kennedy Brooks and Eric Gray are top notch and are All American material. But one turned ankle….
However if there is one coach that can scheme a game plan around what he has, it’s Riley. And outside of depth at running back, Riley has a lot.
Shouldn’t take too much to get past the first game against the Tulane Green Wave this Saturday morning at surprise, Owen Field.
Hurricane Ida changed everyone’s plans and now the Sooners will start the season with four straight home games.
The Green Wave have some athletes. They went 6-6 last year but return several key players. Especially quarterback Michael Pratt. Last year as a freshman he threw for 20 touchdowns, and ran in another 8.
But no matter how you look at this game, the Sooners should be able to put it away before halftime, third quarter at the very latest.
So the Worry Meter is only at 20% this week. It should be an exciting season Sooner fans.
With all that being said…BOOMER!!!
