Dave: Sooners improving, but Halloween in Lubbock not easy

by

Every week the Sooners get better and better on both sides of the ball.

They went to Fort Worth and tamed the toads to the tune of 33-14

Of course it was going to be 30-14 as Lincoln Riley had Rattler take a knee to run out the clock deep in TCU territory.  But then Gary Patterson showed his ass and started to take time outs rather than let the forgone conclusion end the game.

Riley had no choice but to run the ball again rather than take another knee.  He should have tried to throw for a touchdown.

Defense has not been a hallmark of this series. Not in Lubbock anyway.

But in the end Riley kicked a field goal all the while looking incredulous as to what the hell Patterson was doing.  You can bet Lincoln puts that in the back of his mind for his next face off against that blow hard.

Next up are the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Lubbock. Prime time.  On Halloween night no less.  The Techies have been up and down this year.  They were on a three game losing streak before somewhat righting the ship by taking down West Virginia last Saturday.

During this stretch they changed quarterbacks from sophomore Alan Bowman to junior transfer Henry Colombi.  Bowman threw for 5 touchdowns against texas but also had 3 picks.  Colombi has been the main signal caller since as I think he adds more mobility than Bowman.

Although Bowman has come into the games here and there.  Colombi transferred from Utah State to follow head coach Matt Wells who is in his second year at the helm of the Red Raiders.

Wells was at Utah State for 6 years and led them to 5 bowl games and recorded a 10 win and 11 win season during his tenure.  In 2018 under Wells, the Aggies were second in points scored per game nationally behind number one Oklahoma.

He seems a perfect fit for the Biq 12.

Although attendance will be limited, playing Tech in Lubbock at night will be no easy task.  Both sides of the ball will need to improve again this week.

The last three games in Lubbock produced an average score of 53-45 in the Sooners favor.  Defense has not been a hallmark of this series. Not in Lubbock anyway.

If the Sooners can get a few more stops than the Raiders, that will probably make the difference.

So the Worry Meter is again high this week at 80%.

On All Hallows Eve, let’s hope for more treats than tricks for the Sooners.  With all that being said…..BOOMER!!!

Kickoff: Oklahoma at Texas Tech, 7 pm FOX.

P.S. Have to give a shout out to my Los Angeles Dodgers for their World Series victory. I was a senior in high school the last time they won it. I didn’t think it would take another 32 years to win the next one.  To all my fellow long suffering Dodger fans, the wait is finally over.  As Randy Newman says, I Love L.A.!
