Best way to begin a turn around. Beat Texas.
Yes it was frustrating and totally exhausting watching that near five hour game. But in the end, we won and kept the Golden Hat in Norman.
However, the win didn’t really provide too much confidence moving forward. For three and a half quarters, the defense showed signs that they we actually taking steps in the right direction. But then they reverted back to form and let a converted linebacker score like 15 touchdowns while running like 800 yards…well, it wasn’t that bad, but you get the picture.
But again, it was a win and any win against texas is a big one. For both the team and the fans.
The future is bright for the offense. I can only hope the defense will eventually figure it out- Dave
One of the things that I keep thinking every week, is that Rattler is going to be a star. The way he came back from being benched and played in the second half and the overtimes only convinced me further that he is going to be one of the better quarterbacks to ever play
at OU.
Every game he will get better and so will the young playmakers around him. The future is bright for the offense. I can only hope the defense will eventually figure it out.
Moving forward the Sooners cross the Red River again to take on the TCU Horned Frogs this Saturday in Fort Worth.
The Horny Toads don’t really impress me that much this season. They did beat texas, but they have had the horns number for like the past decade. They don’t fair as well against the Sooners, only beating them 3 times in the 13 match ups since the formation of the Big 12. And OU currently has a 6 game winning streak when going up against Gary Patterson’s bunch.
A lot is always made about Patterson and his defense. And yes, his team is usually at or near the top of the Big 12 defensive rankings. But that hasn’t stopped the Sooners from averaging over 42 points a game against them over the past 5 meetings.
They are 1-2 this year with losses to Iowa St. and Kansas St. The QB is another shifty one that can’t really throw all that well, but is mobile. Which of course has been one of the big problems for the OU defense.
I wouldn’t be that worried about this game if you could guarantee me that Grinch would never, and I mean never send a 3 man rush against this mobile quarterback.
But that of course won’t be the case.
Grinch can’t help himself.
Get a team in 3rd and long and drop 8 which gives a mobile QB the perfect opportunity to sit back and scan the field as long as he wants. And if by some miracle the defensive backs can hold coverage for 5 or 6 seconds, the QB will just scamper his way past the only 3 defensive
lineman in his way and pick up the first down.
So because I still don’t trust this defense, the Worry Meter is coming in at 80% this week.
The Sooners will probably have to keep that scoring average up this Saturday to get past the toads. With all that being said…BOOMER!!!
