Football, in its purest form remains a physical fight. As in any fight, if you don’t want to fight, it’s impossible to win. – Bud Wilkinson
The 2010 fight for a championship begins now, with the Sooners starting the campaign against the Utah State Aggies. Kickoff is 6 pm (CDT) at Owen Field. Some things to know before the game:
Significance of the game
An Oklahoma win will be the 800th win in the program’s 115 year history. For a team hoping to win a national championship, all games must be wins. Other than that, this game against Utah State will be forgotten by October. Oh, it will be the Sooners’ 31st straight home win.
Who to watch – Oklahoma
The offensive line. Starting lineup will be: LT Donald Stephenson (Jr.), LG Stephen Good (Jr.), C Ben Habern (So.), RG Tyler Evans (So.) and RT Eric Mensik (Sr.). Trent Ratterree will start at TE.
Demarco Murray. The Aggies had the 11th worst rush defense in the country last year. Look for Murray to have fun. He had a 92-yard TD run last time Utah State came to town.
Freshmen: Kenny Stills (#4) at WR. Tom Wort (#21)(redshirt Fr) at middle LB. Aaron Colvin (#14)at CB. Brennan Clay (#21) returning kicks.
Who to watch – Utah State
QB Diondre Borel. A talented quarterback. Good passer and fleet of feet. Will be interesting to see how well Jeremy Beal and gang chase down this guy (mobile quarterbacks always give OU fits).
Matt Ah You at linebacker. He’s C.J. Ah You’s little brother.
Television
Pay per view. Sorry. Dean Blevins is the color analyst on the broadcast. If you don’t want to fork over the $39 you can drive to Norman and likely pay $39 to a scalper for tickets. The games is sold out.
