Dave: Hurts looks different than at ‘Bama, low worries this week

by

Ok everyone. Calm down.

It’s one game.

Houston’s defense is not good. However, even taking that into consideration, we can’t discount what Jalen Hurts did with his first shot at Lincoln Riley’s offense.

Anyway you slice it, that was impressive. Even though Jalen himself won’t admit it.

We now see what Hurts can really do, and it’s only going to get better.

(Lighten up a little bit Jalen, you’re allowed to enjoy the moment!)

Hurts looked like a different QB than he did at Alabama. I mean Saban’s teams were not known for their wide open offenses. The signal callers for the Tide were basically there to not make mistakes, get the ball to other playmakers and let the defense win the game for you.

In Riley’s scheme, we now see what Hurts can really do. And it’s only going to get better from here.

Even though it’s early, that third OU Heisman in a row is not looking so out of the question anymore.

The defense was also impressive early on, but wilted in the second half. I will say that it does look like they are attacking the ball much more than in past years.

This might lead to big plays for an offense that catches them in the wrong read, but I think it will eventually create more turnovers.

All in all the first game of the season looked very promising on all fronts. Well, except for field goals. They need to figure that out quick. It could lose a game for us down the line.

This week’s game offers the Sooners the opportunity to fine tune and hopefully get in some reps for backups when South Dakota comes to town for what amounts to little more than a contact scrimmage.

As such the Worry Meter is only at 5%. Stay cool Sooner fans. It’s gonna be a hot one.*
