Your Soonerguys expectations

Here is what you foresee this 2009 season.

Other than veterans Sam Bradford, Jermaine Gresham and Gerald McCoy, which Oklahoma Sooner will be the most valuable player among the rest to make the biggest difference for OU this year?

Will Oklahoma return to the BCS Championship this year?

Demarco Murray is likely going to have to step up and be the most valuable player to allow for more slack in the secondary.  I imagine that if he is healthy this will be his best season. - Brandon, Norman.

Auston English.  He was on tract to be a major impact player when he was hurt thus interrupting his performance output.  I believe he will be back and intent on showing just how much he can accomplish.  - Jonathan, Norman.

I will go with Ryan Reynolds.  Stoops is saying he is back to 100% (yeah I know).  Still, the guy has heart and passion to play and we need someone like that at Mike. - Jackie, Houston.

Ryan Broyles – OU lost it 2 main receivers from last year’s team to graduation.  Ryan Broyles will likely be Sam Bradford’s main target (in addition to Jermaine Gresham). - Mike B., Edmond.

Mossis Madu - He's already shown he make big plays - I think he'll step it up this year and be a major player!  Plus he's a hometown boy and he's got an awesome name!  - Melissa, Norman.

The player to make the biggest difference will be a 'unknown' on the second string, that will step forward and shine. Now I have no idea who that will be, but then that is what makes college football so much more fun then the pros.  - Gerald, Norman.

I'll guess DeMarco Murray.  I expect his effort will be outstanding this year in an effort to demonstrate that he's all the way back for the pros. - Gary, Wilmington, NC

As long as they pass the ball and keep it in the hands of Yancey they will return to the BCS championship and that's the fact jack. - Yancy, Norman.

I believe OU will return this year because Sam Bradford is still playing and wants to prove he can win the big one.  Also, we should just have a really good team this year!! - Nancy, Cedar Creek Lake, Texas (with Wewoka roots).

As hard as it is to admit, I don't think they will. The Sooners are great but they're going to have to have new receivers step up after losing Iglesias. Bradford needs good targets to throw to, and Gresham won't be enough. New WR's could be good in time, but it may take more than one year. Plus, we lost O-lineman and some defensive players. And lastly, the BCS has seen OU fail in 3 recent National Titles and they may not get another chance if there is a close race like last year. I wish they could go, but I just don't think it will happen. - Jordie, Amarillo.

Yes.  Get your tickets now.  Because they are the Sooners. Defense, Defense, Defense!!!!!!!  45 points a game average won't hurt either.   - Rick the Sooner, Wilburton.

Once again if everyone stays healthy we have a shot.    -
John C., Edmond.

I think OU will return to the BCS championship game this year. With Bradford, Gresham, and Williams returning and the fact that OU has shown that they are able to win games on the road last year... they have a great chance to return. -
Mike L., Norman.

No.  It is simply too difficult, from an odds prospective.  They are one of about 5 or 6 teams, however, that are likely to play in the BCS Championship game.  - John V., Norman.

 Dave's Worry Meter

Another BCS Championship game this year for OU?  No.  It's a much tougher road schedule this year.

Demarco Murray will be the MVP.  If you give Oklahoma Demarco Murray for the BCS title game last year and take Percy Harvin away from Florida and OU wins.  Murray was to OU what Harvin was to Florida.  - Dave

In Memoriam

We set aside any school rivalry to honor the life of Curtis Manley, Jr., 76, a long-time educator, sports fan and friend who died July 30 at a Tulsa hospital. Manley proudly served as the Pistol Pete mascot on the Oklahoma State University sidelines from 1960-61 – only the third OSU student to then have that honor. After graduation he went on to a career of teaching biology to thousands of students which he challenged to excel in the classroom and in life. Most importantly, he was the proud "pa pa" of some of our very own Soonerguys. He will be missed and will always be loved.

9 levels of  hell
for Sooner fans

Level 1 – Losing to some school of missionaries that plays in the Mt. West. Look out Sept. 5.

Level 2 - Having to tailgate in Stillwater.

Level 3 - Standing in line at any concession stand at Owen Field.

Level 4 - Sitting in the east stands on the first afternoon game of the season. You go blind.

Level 5 - Traveling to a game in Lubbock.

Level 6. Arriving in Lubbock.

Level 7 - Watching the umpteenth College Game Day story on Monsignor Tim Tebow, or how great Pete Carroll is.

Level 8 - Watching Dean Blevins’ annual HGTV show – you know the one where Coach Stoops is leaving for the NFL, Florida, or some other place.

Level 9 - Suffering through Monday morning sports talk radio callers after the Sooners lose a game. "This is the second loss in two years. He ain’t Big Game Bob anymore and we need to look elsewhere. If we had Mike Stoops this wouldn’t happen."

(Note, Mike Stoops is 25-36 at Arizona).
