OSU fans see stadium addition

Stillwater, Okla. - Fans attending Oklahoma State's spring football intrasquad scrimmage got a chance to see the stadium additions to the west endzone at T. Boone Pickens stadium. All of the cement is complete in the west end zone, but seating is not yet installed except for the first seven rows or so.

"We're considering not putting seats in the west end zone. Having our fans stand the entire game should add enthusiasm and excitement to the game experience," said Mike Holder, OSU's athletic director.

Holder said the suite level is expected to be completed by the 2009 season. Until then, suite donors will be seated in cordoned off areas between the 30 yard lines, so they will not have to mingle with the riff-raff general admission season ticket holders who are being moved to the end zones.

At Saturday's spring game, all 50 fans who attended were allowed to stand in the new end zone addition.

Arkansas installs "pull my finger" offense (seriously)

Fayetteville, Arkansas - The Razorbacks are working on a new silent snap count routine that should help them when they face not only their Southeastern Conference foes on the field but also the hostile and noisy fans in the stands. In the Hogs' new setup, the guards extend their arms out and each tackle holds a guard's finger.

" It's something new that we are working on that should really help us when we are on the road, " Arkansas starting center Jonathan Luigs said. " Sometimes it's hard for us to hear [starting quarterback ] Casey [Dick ] when we are at places like LSU or Auburn or Ole Miss, which can really mess us up. It's used in the NFL a good bit. "

" I get the snap count from Casey and snap it back, " Luigs said. " The guards watch the ball and then rip their fingers away when I snap it. The tackles know they can move when the guard pulls his finger away. "

The tactic allows the offensive tackle to watch the defensive end he's assigned to block rather than the ball, giving the tackle more time to react to the pass rush. Luigs said the line is steadily adapting to first-year Razorbacks coach Bobby Petrino's playbook.

Luigs said the "ring around the rosy" defense may be installed once the season begins.

Weis says happy days are back in South Bend

South Bend, Ind. - Notre Dame finished 3-9 last season, but that's not deterring Coach Charlie Weis from predicting a return to the glory days in 2008.

With Weis' salary being the highest of any college coach, he was paid $1.3 million per win last year.

"That means I wasn't paid at all for any of the losses," Weis said. "Who else can say they go to work but don't get paid unless they are successful?"

"We're going to have our hands full against a very difficult opponent starting out of the gate," said Weis.

Notre Dame begins the season at San Diego State, which is 7-17 the last two seasons under Chuck Long.
