Sooners drop second game in a row — losing 55-24 to TCU

by

I hate to say it. But, the Sooners defense gave up mid-way through their stunning loss to TCU.

Then again, after giving up four big plays, each in excess of 60 yards, for touchdowns in the first half, who wouldn’t?

The Sooners suffered their worst loss since the John Blake era, losing to TCU 55-24.

Losing their first two conference games of the season is not unprecedented. Lincoln Riley’s 2020 Sooners team did that.

But losing in such convincing fashion leads one to believe this team just isn’t very good.

“We’re not very good obviously right now. We have a lot to get better at, a lot to improve,” said Coach Brent Venables.

Dave: Painfully obvious Venables’ culture change will take time (especially on defense)

by

It was foolish of us to think that Brent Venables could take the reins of Oklahoma football and immediately contend for national titles.

While there is a lot of talent to work with, the culture change that needs to take place will not be instantaneous. Especially on the defensive side of the ball.

He who shall not be named left the defense in shambles basically through in-difference. He thought he could just out score everyone. And his defensive coordinator could have made the “All-Just-Standing-There-Team”.

All this was painfully obvious while watching a mediocre K-State team with a mediocre quarterback in Adrian Martinez run all over the Sooner defense to the tune of 41 points and over 500 yards of offense.

Kansas State won’t do better than an 8-4 record this year. Unfortunately Oklahoma might not either.

Williams leads Sooners to 52-31 win in his first start

Freshman quarterback Caleb Williams made sure everyone in the stadium and watching on TV knew this Sooner football team was his on Saturday night.

Williams had his first start for No. 4 Oklahoma, throwing for 295 yards and four touchdowns and running for another score in the Sooners’ 52-31 victory over TCU.

The freshman got the starting nod from Coach Lincoln Riley in practice mid-week, after leading last Saturday’s come from behind nail biter win over Texas in Dallas.

Spencer Rattler had started for the Sooners in all of the previous 14 straight wins — the longest active win streak in the country.
