Knight should start, but let’s give him a chance to succeed

mikesblogUPDATE: Coach Bob Stoops announced Monday that Trevor Knight’s knee injury will sideline him and Blake Bell will start against Tulsa.

The office water cooler discussion on Monday morning will be all about the quarterback situation in Norman.

After Trevor Knight’s slow start, but fast finish, against Louisiana-Monroe, there were plenty of fans who had anointed Knight the next star (at least in the making) to shine wins on Sooner football. I actually got criticized for my reluctance to join the Knight bandwagon.

I was surprised not because I don’t think it was the right choice, but because Bob Stoops of the past would have gone with experience over inexperience even if that inexperience had more of an upside. In selecting Knight, Stoops is taking a calculated risk.
