Texas — the cow of chaotic clothing

by

Hola, my fellow fashionistas! Welcome to my weekly stroll down the Sooner Catwalk of unmitigated fashion wins. Always in shades of Crimson and Cream and NEVER in any shade of orange. This week our Model’s Horse Stomp down the runway brings us to the Cotton Bowl in Texas,

Aw, Texas, Texas…. Though I have wracked my fashion filled noodle year after year to tear you from your love of that wretched burnt orange, you have not once heeded my advice. Why must you vex me so? But this year is different. I can no longer waste a moment upon your blind fashion no-no’s.

This year I say, “No more. I am done with thee thou cow of chaotic clothing, thou losers of the lousy lingerie.” This week instead, I will talk about one of my favorite subjects: how to dress your pets as stylish sooner fans.

Gabriel wills Sooners to Red River upset

In a slugfest where neither team held momentum beyond a single possession, the 2023 Red River Rivalry saw running and passing quarterback Dillon Gabriel seemingly willing his crimson-striped team on a 5-play, 75-yard, 62-second drive that ended with him zip tossing a pass to Nic Anderson, standing wide open in the Sooners’ end of the Cotton Bowl, with 15 seconds to play in the game and securing a 34-30 upset Oklahoma win over No. 3 Texas at the Texas State Fair on Saturday.

Gabriel’s performance put him in the Oklahoma football history books and convinced national naysayers that all predictions of the demise of the storied Sooner program, which suffered its worst defeat ever in this game last year, were as flimsy as Big Tex’s pants flapping in the breeze at the other end of the midway.

There is no guaranteed win left on the schedule. We can’t even count on Kansas to be a push over anymore.

The defense is lost right now. And it may take a few years before it is found.

I saw some stats from the first few years of Venables’ tenure as Defensive Coordinator at Clemson.

His defenses ranked in the 50’s the first two years. Then in the third year they were a top 10 unit, and consistently stayed there throughout his time with the Tigers.

He is head coach now, so he has many more things that need his attention. Also, we need to realize that the Sooners lost more talent than anyone is willing to admit through graduation and the transfer portal.
