Dave: Sooner D has lost aggressiveness, Grinch’s nerve

Well, what the heck do I know? I set the Worry Meter at 5% last week against Kansas.

The Jayhawks were last in the Big 12 and had only one win on the season against a terrible South Dakota team.

And it took a last minute touchdown on their home field to secure the victory.

And did I mention it was Kansas?

But the Sooner defense has been in a giving mood almost all year this season. As such, yet another mediocre quarterback had a career day against us.

Dave: Caleb to get even more comfortable against the hapless Jayhawks

Caleb Williams picked up right where he left off, taking his stellar play at the Cotton Bowl home to Norman with a convincing 52-31 win over the TCU Horned Frogs last Saturday night at Owen Field in the freshman’s first college start.

I think the thing that most impressed me was how Williams was so patient in the pocket. He hung in until the last moment several times. He wasn’t looking to run at the first sign of pressure.

He had a pocket presence that frankly you don’t expect from a true freshman making his first start as a college quarterback.

But when he did need to run, he was effective, almost always gaining positive yards, including an electrifying 41 yard scramble for a touchdown late in the third quarter.

When all was said and done, Caleb’s stat line read like a seasoned veteran’s. He was 18 for 23 passing for 295 yards and 4 touchdowns, while also adding 9 carries for 66 yards and another touchdown.

Dave: Williams cements claim to starting OU QB, but NFL still watching Rattler

Lincoln Riley matched Bob Stoops record of 5-1 through his first six games against the hated longhorns last Saturday at the Cotton Bowl.

In what might have been the greatest game ever played between the rivals, the texas longhorns new “triplets” had stat lines that looked like a video game, but in the end, it didn’t matter.

Quarterback Casey Thompson threw for 388 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Running back Bijan Robinson carried the ball for 137 yards and 1 touchdown and receiver Xavier Worthy caught 9 passes for 261 yards and 2 touchdowns.

All that, and they LOST.

That and many other things made the fourth victory in a row for Oklahoma in this series that much sweeter.
